Commitment to Community

One of the Touchstone Energy principals is, “Commitment to Community”. As a response to that commitment your Cooperative initiated a scholarship program in 1976 to assist area students by annually providing four $400 scholarships to local junior colleges.

In 2001, the Cooperative’s Board of Trustees elected to expand our Commitment to Community through participation in a program known as the “Youth to Washington Tour”.

Twenty three area high schools are invited to participate by encouraging their junior and senior students to write a one page essay on the subject, “Why I would like to visit Washington, D. C.”

Participating schools select the best essay written by their students and forward that essay to SouthEastern for evaluation by Cooperative staff.

The composers of the two best essays will get to participate in a one week, expense paid tour to our Nation’s capital.

Local schools, teachers and students interested in participating in this event should contact Dustin Tripp at 1-800-833-2611, ext. 166 for more specific information.

See you next month and as always, "We’ll keep the lights on for you."
