Peak Power Rewards – Coming Soon
What Are Peak Power Rewards?
During the coldest winter mornings or the hottest summer afternoons, demand for electricity climbs sharply. These moments are called “peak usage times.” When demand spikes, the cost of producing and purchasing power rises too.
Peak Power Rewards is designed to encourage members to shift some energy use away from those peak times. By doing so, our power supplier, SIPC, and all the co-ops it serves, can reduce strain on the grid and lower the cost of power.
How the Program Works
While details from SIPC are still developing, the idea is simple:
- Members are notified when a peak event is coming.
- If you reduce your electricity, use during that window—such as running major appliances later or turning down your thermostat a few degrees, you help lower overall system demand.
- Participating members can earn bill credits for doing their part.
Consider it a community effort. When thousands of SEIEC homes make small, temporary adjustments, the impact is big.
Who is able to participate in the program?
All residential cooperative members are eligible to participate in this program, with the exception of the those on a medical waiver.
Why This Matters for SEIEC Members
1. It helps keep power affordable.
Peak power is expensive. When our co-op can reduce peak usage, we avoid high wholesale costs—and that helps keep rates more stable for every member.
2. It puts money back in your pocket.
Members who join in on peak events will have the chance to earn credits or savings, depending on the program structure SIPC finalizes.
3. It supports the co-op way of doing things.
We’re member-owned. This program lets us work together just like we always have, neighbors helping neighbors, each doing a small part to benefit the entire community.
What’s Next?
SEIEC will share more information as SIPC finalizes program details. Keep an eye on your email, texts, and mail for updates on how to sign up and how rewards will work.
For now, know this: Peak Power Rewards is a simple, practical way for SEIEC members to save money and strengthen the reliability of our electric system.
